This
concern focused on two naturally occurring bacterium, Vibrio
vulnificus and Vibrio parahaemolyticus, that can be found
in clean estuarine waters throughout the world.
Vibrio bacteria
flourish at extremely high levels in warmer waters, such as
the Gulf of Mexico. Vibrio vulnificus is potentially fatal
to persons with weakened immune systems and Vibrio parahaemolyticus
can cause gastrointestinal illness in perfectly healthy consumers
who eat shellfish with sufficient levels of the bacterium.
The
AmeriPure Process was invented as a practical, product-specific
solution to the problems of increased regulation and eroding
public confidence in Gulf Coast oysters. Louisiana State University's
renowned Food Science department furthered the research as
their food scientists fine-tuned the process and documented
the results in a comprehensive research study that was published and peer reviewed in 1996.
The
AmeriPure Process was deemed so effective that the State of
Louisiana dropped its mandatory retail warning sign requirement
for establishments which exclusively serve raw oysters that
have undergone our treatment. Additionally, the State of California exempts AmeriPure's products from its seasonal prohibition (April 1 through October 31) on the sale and distribution of raw oysters harvested from the Gulf of Mexico.
AmeriPure
provides seafood wholesalers/distributors/retailers/consumers
with a premium quality half-shell oyster that has a superior
shelf-life and yield factor. They are just two parts of our
Ten Point Commitment to quality.
